Create garden

Create garden

In planning it is essential to consider the environment in which to insert the space that you want to use as a garden: the vegetable types are very varied and must adapt to the landscape, whether in the countryside for example, or in the city.
It is therefore advisable to observe the elements that create the landscape: the typical materials, the native vegetation, the course of the land, the external furnishings, the colors of the house and of the other houses, the neighboring gardens. Important then is the budget you have available but remember that it is possible to create a very pretty garden even with little money.
If the landscape has some element that deserves to be valued - the view of the lake or the sea but also an important plant or a group of trees - then the garden will be organized in such a way as to direct the gaze in that direction. But a garden can become interesting even if it is found in the city where particular architectural elements sometimes stand out: the foreshortening on a bell tower or an ancient palace. And it is not difficult, with a little imagination, to create a harmonious whole, perhaps inventing a fence made of native species, which ideally connects the garden with what is outside.
Sometimes, however, the problem may be contrary. To hide something outside that does not particularly cheer the view - a dilapidated construction for example -, it is necessary to draw attention to the interior of the garden: a bush placed in a strategic position, a fountain, a flower bed.
But let's go with order.

Analyze the available space

First of all, it is good to have an idea of the area you have, especially in terms of size. It is therefore necessary to measure the terrain to better adapt the project. If the area is not too large it is advisable to leave shrubs and bushes on the perimeter and in the center instead leave the field free to the grass. If, on the other hand, you have a beautiful country garden, which is bigger, it can become challenging to maintain it and treat it better, but with a series of strategies, it will not be so difficult. It will be useful for example to delimit a series of spaces thanks to borders, small hedges or more simply vases.

The climate and the type of terrain

To create a garden another element to consider is the knowledge of the place. The climatic conditions are fundamental to understand what kind of plants can be planted: the altitude, the intensity and the duration of winters and the presence or not of the wind. In fact, it is important to try to create a microclimate, dampening the cold currents and winds that can penetrate the garden, damaging plants and shrubs. But the best strategy to avoid mistakes remains that of carefully observing what grows in the gardens next door.
Another characteristic that must be observed is the type of terrain. The soil must allow the vegetables to grow luxuriant and its quality must be good. If it is a poorly nutritious soil it will be necessary to intervene to improve it.

Sun and shadow

Important for the realization and care of the garden is also to try to identify the quantities of sun and shade, therefore the position of the house. The ideal exposure is generally the south-west one which allows many hours of sunshine during the day, even in the winter months. In the case in which instead the shaded area is prevalent, it is good to also exploit the smallest angle of light to position a patio, or a greenhouse. Even the presence of other elements around the garden could steal space from the sun, so already in the design phase, if you notice for example the presence of some too imposing shrub, it is better to remove it in time. However, by paying attention to all the elements that surround it, it will be easy to create a pleasant and tasteful garden.

Create garden: the choice of style

Once you have identified the various characteristics of climate, soil, sun and shade, you can proceed with the impression you want to give to your garden. To do this, and not to "go off topic", it will be necessary to refer first of all to the architectural style and to the era of construction of the house. Afterwards, the plants and the layout can be identified, as well as the choice of materials for the creation of paths and resting places. - It will then be necessary to evaluate the tastes and needs of the owners. The appearance of the garden will also change depending on the use of the green space: if the owners of the garden are a family with children or an elderly couple or even a husband and wife with a dog, the project may be profoundly different.
And finally, it is also important to take the time to look after the garden, whether it be the main house or the garden of the holiday home. If garden care cannot be daily, the choice of plants must be strategic.
