Fast similar seeds do not need additional stimulation... But the seed of dill sprouts long enough, and in order to avoid unexpected surprises in the form of delays, it is better to promote its germination in a timely manner.

The pre-germination procedure allows you to really estimate the percentage of germination. Often, when dry sowing directly into the ground, "bald spots" appear on the beds - places where the seeds have not sprouted.

From already germinated seeds, you can choose the largest and strongest sprouts that are distinguished by strong immunity. A plant grown from such a seed will more persistently survive possible weather troubles in open ground, and will also be able to more effectively resist diseases and pest attacks.

Quick seedling options

There are several ways to germinate seeds in order for them to sprout faster.

Method number 1:

  1. Wrap the seeds in a damp cloth and place in a glass container.
  2. Put it in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf for three days. This stage mimics spring chills.
  3. After the allotted time, transfer the seeds to the room. Feeling warm, they will begin to germinate at an accelerated rate and in two days they will be ready for sowing in a permanent place.

Method number 2:

  1. You will need a plastic bucket with a lid, with a volume of 300-500 ml. According to its inner diameter, you need to make a wire frame, approximately at the level of the middle of the bucket, and cover it with material.
  2. Pour hot water so that the material is not immersed in it.
  3. Pour seeds on a fabric platform, close the lid, place the container in a dark place.
  4. After a day, remove the swollen seeds from the container, dry and ventilate them. From now on, they are ready to land.

Method number 3:

  1. Soak the seeds in 200 ml of water at a temperature of about 60 degrees.
  2. Extra essential oil will come out of them, inhibiting the germination process.
  3. When the water cools down, drain it and rinse the seeds with cold water.
  4. It remains only to dry them and can be planted in a permanent place.

Method number 4:

  1. Dill seeds for 15 minutes, pour 50 g of vodka. Essential oils are highly soluble in alcohol. The main thing is not to overexpose, otherwise you can burn the seed.
  2. After 15 minutes, rinse the seeds in water and dry.

Method number 5:

  1. The seeds are soaked in oxygen-enriched water. This method, called bubbling, is more labor-intensive; to implement it, you will need a microcompressor from the aquarium.
  2. Dill seeds are placed in a 1 liter jar with water at a temperature of 20 degrees.
  3. Air is supplied there by a hose with a spray tip, uniformly blowing through the entire water column. The seeds should mix well in water with air currents.
  4. The procedure must be carried out for 18 hours. Oxygen serves as a stimulant for the start of biochemical processes in seeds and their germination is accelerated at times.
  5. You can sow seeds right after the procedure, you just need to dry them. Seedlings should appear as early as 3-4 days.

Method number 6:

  1. Mix dill seeds with wet sand, sawdust or peat. For 1 part of the seeds, you need to take three parts of sand or peat.
  2. Pour the substrate so that the water comes out. Usually 100-150 ml is enough for this. It is not necessary to pour too much, so as not to provoke decay processes.
  3. After 2-3 days, the planting material is ready for sowing in the ground. It must be removed from the substrate and dried.

Method number 7:

  1. Briquette of coconut substrate, volume 300 g, soak in water.
  2. Place dill seeds in it. In the room where the seeds are germinated, the temperature should be maintained at +20 +23 degrees.
  3. The substrate will gradually dry out. You need to add water, about 100 ml at a time for five days
  4. After the seeds are baked, they are ready for planting in a permanent place. They are removed from the substrate and transferred to the nutrient soil.
  5. Coconut substrate can be used for germination again, it is enough to dry it without covering it with lids. In the future, simply moisten with water and use the same as first diluted.

How to accelerate seed germination when planting in open ground?

Method number 1:

  1. Pour dill seeds into a natural cloth bag.
  2. Bury it on the site in damp, unheated earth, to the depth of a shovel bayonet.
  3. All manipulations are carried out two weeks before sowing.
  4. Remove the bag from the ground before sowing.
  5. Take out the seed, spread out on paper, dry and sow.
  6. Seeds prepared in this way germinate already in 4-5 days.

Method number 2:

  1. Prepare an infusion of wood ash using a liter of water and 2 tablespoons of ash.
  2. The solution should stand for two days. It needs to be stirred periodically.
  3. Strain the infusion, immerse the seeds packed in a gauze bag in it.
  4. Leave on for 4-5 hours.
  5. After the required time, remove the seeds from the solution and dry. From now on, they are ready to land.

Method number 3:

  1. You will need to purchase any growth stimulant - a solution containing trace elements that promote germination.
  2. Heated and disinfected seeds must be soaked in a solution, according to the instructions indicated on the packaging by the manufacturer.
  3. After soaking, the seeds are dried without rinsing and sown.

The most popular method, due to its simplicity, remains soaking. It only takes water and patience to wait a day for the seeds to swell.

Indicating agrotechnical characteristics, seed producers almost always assure that the germination of this or that dill variety is almost one hundred percent and germination will happen as quickly as possible.

In fact, this is not always the case, and in order to obtain friendly shoots and a rich harvest of dill, you need to take care of the pre-sowing preparation of the planting material on your own. Pre-germination of seeds, no matter which method is chosen for it, always gives better results compared to sowing unprepared seeds directly into the ground.
